Emo: Emo is catagorized in many ways. Emo, Screamo, Hard-Core, Acoustic, etc. Many Emo bands relate their music to inside heart-aches.
Indie: Stands for Independant music. Indie music should be able to define itself. It also relates to inside heart-aches but it rather signifies it's independance of those heart-aches and sufferings.
Alternative: Just simply alternative. Not rock. Not Indie. Not Emo. It can catagorize bands such as Nirvana, The Foo Fighters and Many garage bands such as Jet, The Vines, The Hives, and The White Stripes.
